Helping Start a Calculator Loan Pool

The Fairfax County Stuart High School Math Department had a dream to create a calculator loan pool to offer any student the opportunity to borrow a calculator for class or take home for homework purposes. A TI-84 is a $100+ calculator that can sometimes be too expensive for families and students to purchase when they have more basic needs to meet. By developing a loan pool, the Stuart High School math team knows that they can support more students than they otherwise would. We decided to help them get started with a donation of six TI-84s. Supporting students with the tech tools they need to succeed ultimately supports workforce development. And as, Math Department Chair, Ms. Mulcahy, said “perhaps one day I can say that one of my students works at Jeffries Technology Solutions.”

Supporting Kids and STEM Education

As the year is winding to a close, JeTSI likes to give a little extra help for teachers and students engaging together in math and science.

We found a teacher through Donors’ Choose with just hours remaining to fund her project. We were happy to be able to give her the last bit she needed to purchase science kits for her early elementary class. These kits will allow for plenty of hands-on science learning!

On Give to Science Day, we were also happy to once again support Society for Science & the Public.

JeTSI Gives Back Throughout 2014

January 20, 2015

Herndon, Virginia– In 2014, Jeffries Technology Solutions, Inc. (JeTSI) decided to make donations in support of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education and teachers throughout the year.

Leslie Jeffries, JeTSI CEO, regularly checks in with to see how teachers are hoping to engage their students and their project needs. Throughout 2014, JeTSI has sent donations for math manipulatives & games, weather kits, solar system kits, robotics technology, light boards, and even physical education equipment for outdoor fun. The responses from the teachers and the kids are quite enthusiastic!

“I am so overwhelmed by the amount of science curriculum now contained on the shelves of our truly blessed classroom! The students were so excited when we unpacked the box, and the oldest boy just kept saying ‘wow, cool!’ after every new item we took out.”

“This project has boosted my ability to teach math. My students love when they can use manipulatives to model math problems, have dice to roll, can play games, or even get to work on something independently that isn’t just another worksheet.”

“Thank you so much for your generous gift to my students. We have spent the last six weeks going over weather phenomena and your gifts have benefited them greatly. They have enjoyed all the extra emphasis we were able to place on certain phenomena because of your gifts.”

Our CEO is almost as enthusiastic as the teachers, “Couldn’t resist helping a teacher with only 8 days left to fund her science project.”

JeTSI also made our annual donation to the Society for Science and the Public who shares our vision of promoting a love for science. Their annual science and engineering competitions are a great way to direct, encourage, and motivate students.

JeTSI is a woman-owned engineering consulting firm specializing in the aerospace industry. It provides diverse services in systems engineering and architecture, program management, software development, cost analysis & estimation, and custom hardware solutions.

Herndon, Virginia– Jeffries Technology Solutions, Inc. (JeTSI) is pleased to announce our December 2013 selections in support of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Education. Sharing the vision to promote the understanding and love of science, JeTSI donated $500.00 to the Society for Science and the Public. The Society inspires students around the world through their competitions and Science News publications and website.

We were also once again able to help teachers and students through Donors We selected math and science projects from elementary and middle schools in Virginia. The teachers were quick to send thank you notes even during their Winter Break.

“These resources will create an exciting and fun daily math block by giving students engaging and on-level math skill practice. This will also allow me to meet with struggling students in small groups to provide additional help and support… I know my students will be thrilled to see a box of fun math activities arrive in our classroom after winter break. I appreciate your contributions to my class and this project. Thank you!”

“Words do not express the joy and gratitude you have delivered with this donation.”

“In my class the students are precocious and they want to learn through hands on activities the math and technology they use and hear about in order to understand the world they live in. “

“Your valuable and generous gift allows them to understand these concepts as they explore, manipulate, and conceptualize through hands on learning.”

“It is unbelievable that my project was funded so quickly! My students are going to be amazed when they learn after the Winter Break that our classroom will now be able to use digital cameras to add an amazing visual component to our labs.”

JeTSI is thrilled to be able to help teachers who are passionate and enthusiastic teaching young people the joy of the world around them. These teachers are helping to make math and science real and alive to these young people fostering the next generation of scientists and engineers.

JeTSI Gives Back – Supporting STEM Education

January 10, 2013

Herndon, Virginia– Jeffries Technology Solutions, Inc. (JeTSI) is pleased to announce their December 2012 selections in support of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Education.

Sharing the vision to promote the understanding and love of science, JeTSI donated $1,000 to the Society for Science and the Public. Elmer’s Products matched the donation in their pledge to match all donations up to $50,000. JeTSI is proud to contribute to an organization that utilizes more than 90% of expenditures for program activities (according to their 2010 IRS Form 990).

Additionally JeTSI had the opportunity to review teacher requests via We selected three Virginia schools with science projects in the belief that students who are actively engaged in a project will, not only understand the concepts better, but also develop a life-long interest in science. We selected schools in low-income areas that may not have the financial ability to meet extra needs. Donations were sent to:

  • The Robotics Team, Huguenot High School, Richmond
  • Young Engineers learning application development, Hollin Meadows Elementary, Alexandria
  • Future Meteorologists learning weather instruments, Red Oak-sturgeon Elementary, Alberta

All three teachers immediately expressed enthusiastic appreciation that they would be able to actually implement their teaching in real, hands-on work! Through JeTSI and other support, the Robotics Team received an HP ProBook CAD Computer; the Young Engineers received Samsung Galaxy Tablets to develop Android applications; and the future meteorologists received a barometer, anemometer, and hygrometer to predict weather! “How awesome to have teachers who want to teach through doing as well as lecturing,” said JeTSI CEO, Leslie Jeffries. “As a company of engineers, we are thrilled to be able to provide resources to children and foster the joy of new discoveries in science.”
