JeTSI Gives Back – Supporting STEM Education

January 10, 2013

Herndon, Virginia– Jeffries Technology Solutions, Inc. (JeTSI) is pleased to announce their December 2012 selections in support of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Education.

Sharing the vision to promote the understanding and love of science, JeTSI donated $1,000 to the Society for Science and the Public. Elmer’s Products matched the donation in their pledge to match all donations up to $50,000. JeTSI is proud to contribute to an organization that utilizes more than 90% of expenditures for program activities (according to their 2010 IRS Form 990).

Additionally JeTSI had the opportunity to review teacher requests via Donorschoose.org. We selected three Virginia schools with science projects in the belief that students who are actively engaged in a project will, not only understand the concepts better, but also develop a life-long interest in science. We selected schools in low-income areas that may not have the financial ability to meet extra needs. Donations were sent to:

  • The Robotics Team, Huguenot High School, Richmond
  • Young Engineers learning application development, Hollin Meadows Elementary, Alexandria
  • Future Meteorologists learning weather instruments, Red Oak-sturgeon Elementary, Alberta

All three teachers immediately expressed enthusiastic appreciation that they would be able to actually implement their teaching in real, hands-on work! Through JeTSI and other support, the Robotics Team received an HP ProBook CAD Computer; the Young Engineers received Samsung Galaxy Tablets to develop Android applications; and the future meteorologists received a barometer, anemometer, and hygrometer to predict weather! “How awesome to have teachers who want to teach through doing as well as lecturing,” said JeTSI CEO, Leslie Jeffries. “As a company of engineers, we are thrilled to be able to provide resources to children and foster the joy of new discoveries in science.”

NASA & JeTSI to Present Paper at 2013 GSAW

 December 19, 2012

Herndon, Virginia– Jeffries Technology Solutions, Inc. (JeTSI) is pleased to announce that Mr. Alan Jeffries, President, and Mr. Robert Morgenstern, JPSS Ground Project Deputy MSE, have been selected to present a paper at the Ground System Architecture Workshop (GSAW) 2013 to be held in Los Angeles, California in March.

The paper, entitled “Application of DoDAF 2.0 for NOAA’S JPSS Ground System and Project,” will be presented during the Standards Session. Messrs. Jeffries’ and Morgenstern’s coauthors are JeTSI team members Mr. Jeff Hayden and Mrs. Laura Ellen Dafoe.

The paper will focus on the architecture methodology developed for the JPSS Ground Project system engineering process, and the various areas where the architecture modeling tools were leveraged. This includes the areas of: Command, Control, Communication Architecture; Weather Data Processing Architecture; Organizational Architecture; and the technical baseline modeling and tools.  The Department of Defense Architecture Framework version 2.0 (DoDAF 2.0) viewpoints and views that are being used to describe the JPSS Ground System (GS) architecture will be highlighted. Additionally, the details of handling the complexities of a large System of Systems (SoS), such as the JPSS GS, with an equally complex modeling tool will be described.

“The Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) is the Nation’s next generation polar-orbiting operational environmental satellite system, procured by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), through the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). JPSS will provide continuity of critical observations for accurate weather forecasting, reliable severe storm outlooks, global measurements of atmospheric and oceanic conditions such as sea surface temperatures, ozone, and more. JPSS will also monitor rescue beacons to help save lives through the international SARSAT program and continue support for the French provided Advanced Data Collection System (ADCS),” as stated on NOAA’s website.

Jeffries Technology Solutions at Space Ops 2012

Mr. Alan Jeffries, President, presented a paper at the recent Space Ops 2012 Conference in Stockholm, Sweden. The paper, entitled Using DoDAF 2.0 for NOAA’S JPSS Ground System showcased the use of DoDAF architectural drawing tools in the design and development of the JPSS ground system. JeTSI team member, Jeff Hayden, was the coauthor. Mr. Robert Morgenstern from NASA Goddard Space Flight Center also provided significant support. Attached is the power point presentation used in the presentation. If you have questions about the paper or the architectural tools used in the program, please contact Mr. Jeffries at 703-471-7588.

Congratulations NPP Team!
